Our member schools benefit from accredited training courses which are designed to provide practical information and advice that senior management staff can easily and effectively put to use in the day-to-day running of their schools as well as to advance their own professional careers.
In addition to our annual conference we hold themed one-day courses throughout the year for our member schools which include safer recruitment training, HR, finance, estates management, IT and inspections.
ISBA has registered provider status with the CPD Standards Office meaning that its courses and webinars are recognised as satisfying post-qualification CPD requirements by the many professional bodies to which ISBA members' staff belong. These include ACCA, CILEx, CIM, CIMA, CIPD, CIPFA, CMI, ICAEW/ICAS, ICSA and IOD.

New bursars' course
Newly appointed bursars of ISBA member schools can attend a residential two-day 'New Bursars' Course', run each year, which provides a comprehensive introduction to all the issues facing bursars in independent schools. Topics covered include the relationships between the chair of governors, head and bursar, the role of the clerk to the governors, charity law and charity accounting, public benefit, inspections, safeguarding, employment law, health and safety and much more.
Face to face events are currently on hold and the ISBA is running virtual webinar sessions for newly appointed bursars.
Accredited health and safety courses
In association with ROSPA, our accredited health and safety training makes a valuable contribution to a bursar's professional development portfolio.
We run regular webinars on key issues facing the sector which form part of our accredited training programme.
Courses available to non-member schools:
We are currently running our popular 'So you want to be a bursar?' course as four webinar sessions. They will inform and guide those who are considering a career in the independent schools' sector as either a bursar or senior member of the support staff.
The need for four sessions will be reviewed nearer the time of the webinars, depending on the current situation with regards to the pandemic and independent schools.
Our next "So you want to be a bursar?" webinars will run on 11 and 13 January 2022. Places are limited, so early booking is advised.
