Educating 889 pupils (571 boys aged 11 to 16 and 318 in the Sixth Form, of whom 59 are girls), St Albans School enjoys an outstanding reputation as a vibrant and dynamic school, whose prime focus is the needs of its pupils, allowing them to do, and to give of, their best. Pupils are offered a broad, flexible and forward-looking curriculum alongside a wide variety of co-curricular activities. Academic excellence, intellectual development and strong pastoral care lie at the core of an exceptional, all-round education, enabling each pupil’s potential to be identified and nurtured and making St Albans School one of the leading day schools in the country.
With the retirement of Richard Hepper in 2025 after more than a decade of service, St Albans School is now looking for an outstanding new Bursar to join at this exciting time in the School’s history. This is a wide-ranging role and within the management structure of the School, they are de facto Chief Operating Officer (COO). The Bursar will report to the recently appointed Headmaster and will also work closely with the Chairman of Governors and be part of the Senior Leadership Team. The Bursar is key to the strategic development of the School and along with a strong track record of relevant experience, will bring excellent inter-personal and communication skills, effective managerial acumen, personal integrity and sound judgement. The School welcomes applications from all and acknowledges that some candidates may not have experience in all areas. These are open to discussion with the Headmaster and Governors.
