The Opportunity

St Margaret’s is a co-educational independent day and boarding school in Hertfordshire offering an outstanding education to pupils aged 2 to 18.  The School has doubled in size over the last 5 years, and now has a roll of over 800 and an annual turnover of over £17m.  Set in over 60 acres of beautiful grounds, the School is situated just inside the M25 and only 20 minutes by train from London.

Comprising a Nursery, Junior School, Senior School and Sixth Form, St Margaret’s focus is on providing superb teaching by committed subject specialists, underpinned by excellent pastoral care. St Margaret’s takes great pride in supporting the whole family and is known for their excellent communication and engagement.

The School’s buildings and facilities are a blend of both modern and traditional within a setting of woodland and orchards. The grounds are picturesque and provide a variety of natural playing spaces including the woodland trail and several ponds along with the main Grade II listed building.

The Governing Board is now seeking a high performing and strategic Director of Finance and Operations who will play a key role in the overall management and development of the School. The next phase of the School’s development will include exciting capital projects and advancing its partnerships, as well as fundraising. Reporting to both the Head and the Chair of Governors, the principal objective of this role is to provide leadership and operational management in all areas of the non-educational aspects of the School including finance, estates, HR, IT and catering.

The successful candidate will be a strategic thinker with excellent commercial and financial ability. They will need to have previously led and managed a multi-disciplinary team and be able to demonstrate strong relationship management and communication skills.

A proactive and collaborative approach along with a desire to fulfil an integral role within the senior leadership team will be key to delivering successfully in this position.

Previous experience of working in a school is not essential, however they will need to demonstrate a strong interest in the education sector along with a desire to support the St Margaret’s School educational aims and values.
