Shrewsbury School is a leading co-educational independent school. It has 840 pupils aged 13-18, 75% of whom are boarders, accommodated in 12 houses and set within an idyllic campus.
The Head of General Services role is to ensure that all domestic services are provided to a high standard for Shrewsbury School pupils and school community. This will involve clear leadership of the relevant departments together with responsibility for managing commercial business of hiring serviced school facilities to external users, balancing the educational needs during term-time.
Reporting to the Bursar, the Head of General Services is responsible for the Housekeeping Department, Laundry, Sports Facilities, School Shop, outsourced Catering, and commercial business. This post holder is a senior member of the support staff and is responsible for over 100 full and part-time staff and annual expenditure on wages, supplies and equipment in excess of £4 million.
The successful applicant will be a professional and experienced “people manager” with good grounding in the hotel and catering sector. You will have the gravitas and communication skills to respond effectively to the needs of a diverse group of stakeholders with competing priorities.
Essentially the successful applicant will have:
• Hotel or catering management qualification ideally at degree level or as a minimum diploma.
• Strong leadership and management skills with a proven ability to develop and motivate teams.
• Experience of working at a senior level within a similar sized organisation operating in the service sector (ie: hotels, catering or education).
• Commercially astute with experience of business development.
• Financial skills including budgeting, financial control, procurement, and contract negotiation.
• Excellent all round ICT skills.
